4 décembre 2014

Uruguay ratified the Marrakesh Treaty to Facilitate Access to Published Works for Persons Who Are Blind, Visually Impaired or Otherwise Print Disabled (the Marrakesh VIP Treaty) on December 1, 2014.

The Marrakesh VIP Treaty was adopted on June 27, 2013. Its entry into force requires the deposit of 20 instruments of ratification or accession by eligible parties. Uruguay is the fourth country to ratify the Treaty after El Salvador, India and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The Treaty has a humanitarian and social development dimension, and is critical in the establishment of a legal framework to allow for the production and distribution of books in accessible formats. The Accessible Books Consortium supports the objectives of the Marrakesh Treaty, and through its three main activities aims to increase the worldwide availability of accessible books.
